In this video, we take a look back at Dark Phoenix and the many problems that plagued the final X-Men movie from Fox, while also examining how Captain Marvel arguably undermined the film before it even had a chance to succeed. From the handling of Jean Grey and the Dark Phoenix Saga to the drastically different approaches to powerful female superheroes, we’ll compare the two movies and discuss why Captain Marvel made Dark Phoenix feel even more outdated and unnecessary. Was Dark Phoenix doomed from the start, or could it have worked under different circumstances? And did Captain Marvel expose just how badly Fox had mishandled the X-Men franchise?
