In this lanterns breakdown, I review lanterns episode 7 and focus on how the lanterns HBO series handled Hal Jordan’s home life, his father, mother, and brothers, and why that change undercuts who Hal Jordan is supposed to be.

For a green lantern fan, family is core to Hal’s fearlessness and his flaws. This episode rewrites that dynamic completely. I’ll compare what the show did vs the classic setup longtime readers know, explain why this hurts his arc alongside John Stewart, and what it could mean for the rest of the dcu.

Starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, hbo max’s Lanterns is building toward something big — but did Episode 7 break Hal to prop up the story?

Let me know in the comments — did they butcher Hal’s family, or am I overreacting?
